In the District of Change, we rise up.
We rise to the challenge to win not only on the court, but in our community.
We rise for equality, for justice and to champion inclusion for all.
Honoring those that came before us and acknowledging the continued progress we must make, we are proud to present the Mystics REBEL EDITION Uniform.
We want to continue that legacy of being the District of Change. To carry the torch of the leaders, freedom fighters and changemakers that came before us and carved out a place for women — enabling and empowering us to be where we are today. And that’s only the beginning.
For almost three decades, we have fiercely fought for our place in sports. To redefine and rebuild what it means to be a woman, to be an athlete, to be a champion. Strong, committed and united, we continue to push for the win and claim victory for our city.
Now, we use our collective power to join our fellow sisters and brothers shouting for justice. Climbing onward and upward, we strive to be a spark for meaningful social change.
Our team is built upon the principles of inclusion and resiliency, supporting one another, arm in arm, in the face of adversity. Every knee taken, every fist quietly raised is a step forward in the movement for true equality. And until fully realized, we challenge the status quo and call upon ourselves and others to act, to persevere against the barriers that uphold injustice.
silence is not
As the women of today, we refuse to allow ourselves to be sidelined, just as we refuse to allow others to be boxed out on the basis of gender, race, sexuality, ability or identity.
As champions, we rise to defend our rights and march to further progress in our city and throughout our country.

THE NATIONAL MALL
America's civic stage
For more than 100 years, the NAtional Mall has been a civic stage for peaceful expression of First Amendment rights to advance the just cause of racial, gender, and LGBTQ+ equality. Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., the National Mall is symbolic of our democratic values. It is on this stage we come to tell the story of people and events that shape us as a nation.

The Mystics 2021 REBEL EDITION colorway takes inspiration from the 2017 Women’s March - the largest single day protest in world history. Intertwined with Mystics Navy Blue, this bold color scheme represents the power of a sisterhood that is unapologetic, irreverent, and speaks truth to power.

First line of the 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920 granting women the right to vote, is woven along the front and sides of the uniform. The Women’s Suffragist Parade, an appeal to Congress to pass the 19th Amendment, was one of the first processions along Pennsylvania Avenue to the National Mall.

LIFTING AS WE CLIMB
Black Women & the Nineteenth Amendment
Black women played a crucial role in the suffragist movement, yet their full enfranchisement didn't culminate with the 19th Amendment. It was, however, a start to a new decades long struggle to secure voting rights for all Americans. Trailblazers like Mary Ann Shadd Cary, Charlotte Forten Grimke, Ida B. Wells, and Nannie Helen Burroughs lifted as they climbed in the face of racism and worked to pass universal suffrage knowing they may not receive full enfranchisement granted by the 19th Amendment.
The Mystics will shine a light on the stories of these trailblazers – many of whom called Washington, D.C. home. This uniform detail encourages a conversation around the complete history and impact of the woman’s vote.
The Mystics will debut their Nike Rebel Edition uniforms on the court Fri. June 3. The uniforms will be worn a total of four times at home, corresponding with some historical dates and games with a social justice theme:
FRI. JUNE 3 Wear Orange, Gun Violence Awareness
SUN. JUNE 12 Pride Night, presented by Capital One
SUN. JULY 31 3:oo pm tip-off against the Seattle Storm
TUES. AUGUST 2 7:00 pm tip-off against the Las Vegas Aces
Did you know that nearly every monument and memorial on the National Mall was paid for in part by donations from the general public? Or that the maintenance of the open space is funded in part from donations? Government funding alone will not ensure the National Mall – America’s Civic Stage - is restored, preserved and enriched for future generations. The Trust for the National Mall is the leading non-profit, non-partisan philanthropic partner of the National Park Service dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the critical needs on the National Mall.
